Waterhemp invading bean and corn fields
Waterhemp, part of the pigweed family, continues to push its snout into area soybean fields and the weed may also soon be rooting around in area corn fields. "Waterhemp is the dominant problem weed for farmers in Illinois," said Aaron Hager, University of Illinois Extension weed specialist.

Longview City Council rejects grant to map trees
The Longview City Council decided Thursday to reject a $10,000state grant for mapping Longview's urban forest with satelliteimagery, saying the city's grant matching funds would be betterspent battling the aphid problem.
